This is the mantra many surgeons have followed as they’ve searched for the right opportunities for surgical training engagements that would be most impactful. While this model may have worked in the past, there are many cases that simply do not fit under its umbrella. An example?

The unfortunate reality of surgical training is that some cases, such as these, are harder to prepare for than others, especially when there are limitations on resources that would provide a more accurate experience. This is where the SurgiSTUD models come in. Our STUDS are designed to provide authentic, life-like models that mimic the cases to allow for more accurate training.


Surgical training for pediatric deformities face significant challenges due to the lack of cadaveric specimens and quality synthetic surgical models. Currently, surgeons rely on basic anatomical models and operating room (OR) patient cases for training. The traditional approach lacks the comprehensive and specialized focus required for pediatric cases which can lead to poor surgeon preparedness and patient outcomes. Our customer wanted to run a training lab for myelomeningocele, craniosynostosis, and Chiari malformations but did not have a way of simulating these conditions.

Our Solutions

With these challenges in mind, we developed advanced synthetic training models that would provide an ideal training environment for pediatric myelomeningocele, craniosynostosis, and Chiari malformations:

The models mimicked the anatomical and pathological features of these conditions

They leveraged our 3D printing technologies and various soft tissue manufacturing methods to replicate the anatomical abnormalities encountered in these surgeries

The models were able to combine multiple deformities in a single model to streamline the logistics of the lab


With our unique synthetic models, we are providing surgeons-in-training with authentic, hands-on experience, that will significantly enhance their surgical technique, clinical judgment, and confidence in addressing pediatric neurosurgical cases.
